I enjoy cocktail competitions as you get to see the madness in a bartenders method. So this brings me to Flor De Cana 7 year old cocktail competition being held at The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town on Artillery Lane.
I get there and see all bartender’s nervous and talking to themselves similar to actors before a casting! Stressed was one of the words that one of the participants said to me. Each contestant has carefully thought out their routine, cocktail and garnish.
Flor De Cana had entrants from across the South of England competing. Staff from Oxford, Bristol across to Cambridge and down to Brighton. Let’s not forget the London massive representing too.
Each competitor cannot provide a cocktail with a maximum of seven ingredients and five minutes to complete their story and cocktail. The winner gets to go to Nicaragua and participate in the final in the Flora De Cana distillery later in the year.
So we kick off with and the buzz of the crowd as well as intensity of professionals enjoying what the peers have to offer. There were some amazing drinks to sample and I was in heaven. After many hours of showcasing with a total of twenty four different bar tenders there could only be three winners.

His cocktail was named Chichigalpa Morning Flip.
In first place and winner of the Flor De Can Rum 7 year old London Final Competition is Benji Purslow (above) from Ziloufs.
His cocktail is called Flor De Banana. The name of the cocktail is something that reminded him of the flavours of the rum.
